How we calculate

Every chart, date and score on JyotiVerse is calculated, not guessed. This page lists each choice behind them, so you can check any result against another source.

Planet positions

Every position comes from Swiss Ephemeris, the astronomical library most astrology software is built on, in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the one India's national calendar uses. Rahu is the true node, and Ketu is exactly opposite it.

Birth time and place

Your birth time is read in the time zone of your birthplace as it was on that day, with its history — India's war time of 1942 to 1945, for example. Births before 1906 use local mean time. When the time isn't known the chart is cast for noon, and the chart says which parts are then approximate.

Houses, aspects and strength

Houses are whole signs counted from the Ascendant's sign. Aspects are the graha drishti of the classical texts: every planet aspects the 7th from it, Mars also the 4th and 8th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th. Dignity uses the natural friendships of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and a planet close to the Sun is marked combust.

Dasha

The Vimshottari dasha: 120 years of 365.25 days, shared among the nine grahas (Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17). The first Mahadasha starts before birth, by the part of the Moon's nakshatra already crossed.

Doshas and yogas

Mangal dosha is read from the Ascendant (and, as mild, from the Moon) with the widely agreed exceptions only: Mars in its own or exaltation sign, Jupiter with or aspecting Mars, a Cancer or Leo Ascendant. Kaal Sarp is all seven planets on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. Sade Sati uses today's Saturn against your Moon sign. Each check explains what it does and doesn't mean.

Kundli Milan

The Ashta Kuta score comes from the two Moons' nakshatras and signs, with the first partner read as the groom and the second as the bride, as the tables expect. All eight kutas follow the standard tables: Gana by the usual Deva, Manushya and Rakshasa nakshatras, Yoni by the fourteen animals, and Graha Maitri by the friendship of the two Moon signs' lords. Vashya uses the five groups (quadruped, human, water, wild, insect), with Sagittarius and Capricorn split at 15°; calculators differ in a few cells of this one table, so Vashya alone can differ by up to 2 points from another site. The exceptions to Nadi and Bhakoot dosha are not applied.

Panchang

Sunrise and sunset are the moments the Sun's upper edge meets the horizon, with standard refraction. The tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are those in force at sunrise, each with the time it ends. Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika are eighths of the daytime from the weekday tables, and Abhijit is the 8th of the day's 15 muhurtas. The panchang is checked against Drik Panchang on chosen days in New Delhi, Mumbai, London and New York, a solstice, an equinox and skipped and repeated tithis among them: each element within 2 minutes, sunrise and the periods within 90 seconds.

Festival dates

Each festival is a rule in one data file: its lunar month, paksha and tithi, and the time of day the tithi must hold — sunrise, midday, afternoon, evening, midnight or moonrise — with the few special cases such as Bhadra for Holika Dahan. Dates are for New Delhi unless a page names another city. Every 2026 and 2027 date in Drik Panchang's New Delhi list, 148 in all, matches.

Muhurat dates

Muhurats come from rule files for marriage, griha pravesh and business, drawn from Muhurta Chintamani and Dharma Sindhu. Whole days are left out first (Kharmas, Chaturmas, Venus or Jupiter set, eclipses); each remaining day is then cut at every change of tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and Lagna, outside Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda. For marriage in New Delhi in 2026 and 2027 it finds 151 of the 155 days on Drik Panchang's list, and the test names each difference and its reason.

Where AI comes in

No number on this site is written by AI: positions, the panchang, dates and scores are all calculated. AI writes the readings — the Kundli reading, the match reading, the daily rashifal and the Guru's answers — from those calculated facts and from passages of the classical texts, naming the text it relies on. A Kundli reading is checked against the chart before it is shown, and AI-written text is always labelled.

Review

The rule files — the dosha exceptions, the festivals, the muhurats and the report timing — are first versions, written from the texts and checked against published lists. An astrologer advisor is to review them; when that is done, this page will name the reviewer and the date.
