Am I Manglik? Free Mangal dosha check
Mangal dosha (Kuja dosha) is traditionally read when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Ascendant or the Moon. It mainly matters in matching for marriage.
It is very common — many astrologers find it in around four charts in ten — and the classical texts give exceptions that cancel it, such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign, or Jupiter with or aspecting Mars. This check applies those exceptions.
Mangal dosha, explained
What makes a chart Manglik
Mangal dosha is read when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. This check counts those houses from the Ascendant, and also from the Moon; a dosha from the Moon only is shown as mild, as many astrologers treat it. Some traditions also count from Venus, and some leave out the 1st or the 2nd house, so two astrologers can disagree about the same chart.
The exceptions this check applies
The dosha is counted as cancelled when Mars is in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn), when Jupiter is with Mars or aspects it, or when the Ascendant is Cancer or Leo, for which Mars is the yogakaraka. The texts list many more exceptions by sign and house, and they contradict each other, so this check leaves them out; an astrologer may apply them.
Reading your result
The result is one of four: present (from the Ascendant, with no exception), mild (from the Moon only), cancelled (an exception applies, and the result names it) or not present. Each gives the house Mars is in from the Ascendant and from the Moon, so you can check it against any other chart.
What it does and doesn't mean
Mars stands for drive, courage and heat. In these houses tradition reads it as friction in married life, which is why the dosha matters mainly when matching, and why two Manglik partners are held to balance each other. It says nothing about whether you will marry, and no dosha is a reason for fear or for costly rituals.
Questions
Does Mangal dosha end at 28?
It's a popular belief, from the idea that Mars matures at 28. The classical texts this check follows set no age. The placement in your chart stays the same, though many astrologers read its effect as milder later in life.
How common is Mangal dosha?
Very. Mars falls in one of the six houses in about half of all charts, and after the exceptions many astrologers find it in around four charts in ten.
Should a Manglik marry only a Manglik?
Tradition says two Manglik charts balance each other, which is why matching checks both. But a match rests on the whole of both charts, not on one factor.
Are there remedies for Mangal dosha?
The traditional ones are simple: the Hanuman Chalisa or a mantra to Mars on Tuesdays, and charity such as red lentils. None needs paying anyone, and none is needed for the chart to be fine; matching with care matters more.
Is Manglik the same as Mangal dosha?
Mangal dosha is the placement of Mars; Manglik is a person whose chart has it.
Do I need my birth time for this check?
For the houses from the Ascendant, yes. Without it the check still reads Mars from the Moon, which is reliable within a day.
